For beginners, setting up the backgammon board always seems more complicated than it really is. Here you will find a step to step guide to setting up the backgammon board.
The backgammon board consists of 24 triangles - 12 on each side of the board – called points.
The points are divided into 4 parts: each player’s home boards and outer boards. The home boards and the outer boards are separated by the bar.
The points are numbered 1 through 24, starting from the player's home board.
There are 30 backgammon checkers in two colors; 15 checkers (of the same color) to each player.
At the beginning of the backgammon game, the checkers are placed on the points this way:
2 checkers on the 24 point
3 checkers on the 8 point
5 checkers on the 13 point
5 checkers on the 6 point
In addition to the backgammon board set up, you will also need two pairs of dice (two dice for each player) and the doubling cube. A dice cup used for shaking and rolling the dice is a common accessory in serious backgammon games.
